Fibden Farm BESS

Fibden Farm BESS is a hybrid solar and battery storage project located at Hampton Lovett, near Droitwich, Worcestershire. The project comprises 40 MW / 53 MWp of solar PV capacity and 160 MWh of battery storage.

In February 2026, developer Grenergy secured a 20-year Contracts for Difference (CfD) contract from NESO (National Energy System Operator) for the solar generation component of the project. The contract covers 80% of the solar energy generated at a strike price of £65.23 per MWh (CPI-indexed), representing a minimum guaranteed revenue of approximately £55 million over the contract period.

The CfD contract is expected to commence between March 2028 and February 2029. Grenergy expects to complement these revenues with income from ancillary services and capacity markets, enabled by the 160 MWh battery storage component.

Project Overview

  • Project Name: Fibden Farm Solar & BESS
  • Developer: Grenergy
  • Solar Capacity: 40 MW / 53 MWp
  • Storage Capacity: 160 MWh
  • Location: Hampton Lovett, near Droitwich, Worcestershire
  • Status: ✅ CfD Contract Secured (February 2026)
  • Expected Operation: March 2028 – February 2029
  • CfD Strike Price: £65.23 per MWh (CPI-indexed)
  • Minimum Guaranteed Revenue: £55 million

Capacity Market Award

In March 2026, Fibden Farm was one of four Grenergy projects (totalling 190 MW / 760 MWh) awarded capacity contracts in the NESO T-4 Capacity Market auction at a clearing price of £27.10/kW/year. The 15-year contracts provide a guaranteed base income layer for the project's revenue structure.

This dual revenue strategy — CfD for solar generation plus Capacity Market for storage — demonstrates a mature and bankable business model for hybrid renewable projects in the UK market.

Project Significance

  • Hybrid Revenue Model: Combines CfD-backed solar revenue with capacity market and ancillary service income from storage
  • Grid Stability: The 160 MWh battery will provide grid balancing services, storing excess solar generation for peak demand periods
  • Long-term Certainty: 20-year CfD + 15-year capacity contracts provide exceptional revenue visibility
  • Land Efficiency: Co-located solar and storage maximises the use of the same land area

Developer Background

Grenergy is a Spanish multinational clean energy producer founded in 2007, listed on the Spanish stock exchange since 2015 with a market capitalisation of approximately €2 billion. The company develops, builds, and operates photovoltaic solar plants and is a pioneer in the energy storage industry.

With a team of over 600 professionals, Grenergy operates across three key regions: Europe (including Spain, Italy, Germany, Poland, Romania, and the United Kingdom), North America, and Latin America. The company's global portfolio exceeds 75 GWh of storage capacity and 12 GW of solar in various stages of development.

Grenergy is also driving Greenbox, its standalone storage platform in Europe, which has over 30 GWh of standalone batteries under development.

Project Context

Fibden Farm is part of Grenergy's broader UK portfolio, which includes Goodrest Farm BESS (70MW, approved) and other projects in the Greenbox platform. The project's CfD award demonstrates Grenergy's ability to secure long-term revenue contracts at competitive prices (£65.23/MWh) while maintaining project bankability.

Grenergy secured capacity contracts for four UK BESS projects in the March 2026 T-4 auction (Scalm Park, Spring Lane, Buxton Road, and Fibden Farm) with a combined nominal power of 190 MW and total storage capacity of 760 MWh.
