Developer Background

Brockwell Energy is a leading UK-based independent power producer (IPP) specialising in renewable energy infrastructure. The company has invested in and delivered over £900 million of clean energy projects. Brockwell operates a 3.5GW pipeline across onshore wind, solar, and battery storage, with 240MW currently operating or under construction.

Dolphingstone Farm BESS follows the recently consented Inchbean Farm BESS project in East Ayrshire and adds to Brockwell's growing portfolio across the UK.

Project Significance

  • Grid Stability: The BESS will help balance supply and demand, smooth out intermittent renewable generation, and support the stability of the local electricity network.

  • Clean Power 2030: The project supports delivery of the UK government's Clean Power 2030 plan.

  • Renewable Integration: As Scotland generates more power from wind, smart storage becomes essential to ensure clean energy isn't wasted.

  • Local Economic Boost: The project will create opportunities for local contractors, trades, and service providers.

Environmental Focus

Dolphingstone Farm BESS has been designed with environmental responsibility as a priority:

  • The site was carefully selected within a natural dip in the landform to reduce visual impact

  • Thoughtful landscaping will enhance local ecology

  • A robust Flood Risk and Drainage Strategy ensures safe and sustainable water management

  • Biodiversity enhancements include habitat creation and sensitive landscaping

Community Engagement

Brockwell Energy is committed to creating genuine, long-term value for the local area:

  • Community Investment: Funding will be available for local initiatives reflecting residents' priorities

  • Local Economic Boost: Opportunities for local contractors and service providers during construction and operations

  • Environmental Enhancements: Biodiversity measures will leave a meaningful environmental legacy

The public consultation ran from 12 August 2023 to 26 August 2023, allowing local residents to view plans and provide feedback before submission.
